» As the name is combining two different things, it will unite the tablets and smartphone branches of Android into one operating system that will scale for big and small screens

» The overriding design theme will be based on Honeycomb’s vector-like holographic look with the slick task switcher and new resizable widgets from 3.1 taking centre stage.
» All of the new NFC features from 2.3.4 will be available across the board.
» It will end end issues of over app compatibility which means if a app works on a phone, it’ll work properly on a tablet screen.
» Ice Cream Sandwich will not only have face detection but also voice detection in video calls. So, if more than one person is talking, the OS will be able to zoom in on the person talking. It can also apply ‘hilarious’ effects to faces and overlay avatars.
» Google has built support for head-coupled perspective(HCP), 3D into Android 4.0. HCP uses your device’s front facing camera to track your head’s movements and constantly adjusts the image to create a 3D effect.
» A new feature based on NFC technology called 0-click sharing will allow you to share contacts,links and other media just by touching devices If you’re watching a YouTube video on your phone tap it on your tablet and the video will pick it up where you left off. If you want to play game with a fellow android user, touch devices and they’ll download it and join you in moments.
It is expected to be launched in October/November 2011.

Update: First phone to feature ICS is Samsung Nexus Prime. It also supports face detection unlock.
